We are delighted to announce that the keynote speaker at this year’s Norse in the North Conference will be Professor Judith Jesch of the University of Nottingham. Judith is a major figure in the field of Old Norse and Viking Studies and, as a former alumna of both Durham University and of St Aidan’s College (which will host next year’s event), it is a great honour for us to have her back in Durham to present our keynote address.
Judith’s best-known publications include the books Women in the Viking Age (1991) and Ships and Men in the Late Viking Age (2001); she has also recently published the popular illustrated collection Viking Poems of Love and War (2013). As the director of Nottingham’s Centre for the Study of the Viking Age, Judith has also coordinated numerous outreach projects designed to advance knowledge and understanding of Old Norse and Viking Studies between local communities and universities nationwide.
We look forward to welcoming Judith back to Durham as our guest, and we hope to see many others from Nottingham at the conference as well!
